She was born and raised in a modest Punjabi family, she regularly appeared on AIR (All India Radio) during her college days. She was married to Shiv Agarwal, the son of a rich industrialist from Kolkata. She shifted to Kolkata after her marriage. She was the mother of two children, was enjoying high social status, and had a loving husband, life seemed perfect to her. At one such party, her meeting with the music director Ravi in Kolkata landed the couple in Mumbai where BR Chopra was mesmerized by Vimi’s beauty and without giving a second thought contracted her for his upcoming project Humraaz, which released in 1968. Overnight Vimi from an ordinary, converted into a star. Although stardom was very short lived as her movies after Humraaz failed at the box office.

Vimi at one stage was arguably the most beautiful face in the Bollywood industry, died untimely on 22nd August 1977, after battling it out for a brief period in the general ward of the Nanavati hospital in Mumbai. The cause of her death was reported to be heavy drinking. She was still in her mid-thirties when she bid adieu to the world.
