According to sources, Thalapathy 67 will be helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

It will go on floors around the end of this year as all other details have been kept under wraps,” revealed a source close to the development.

Before moving on to this, Vijay will complete shooting for the yet-untitled Dil Rau production directed by Vamshi Paidipally, which is expected to go on floors from April this year. Beast is scheduled to release worldwide on April 14, 2022. Touted to be a black comedy, Beast stars Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Shine Tom Chacko, VTV Ganesh, Aparna Das, Lilliput Faruqui, Ankur Ajit Vikal, Sathish Krishnan, Redin Kingsley, and Bjorn Surrao in pivotal roles. The film is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. Beast is gearing up for a theatrical release on 14 April and with trade pandits already proclaiming it as a blockbuster hit.

After smashing the box office with Master, Thalapathy Vijay is all gearing up for his next, the Nelson Dilipkumar directed Beast. The film is gearing up for a theatrical release in the month of April with the sky-high expectation from the trade. Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that even before its release, Beast is up for sale for a Hindi remake.

“Multiple producers from the Hindi film industry are in talks with Sun Pictures to acquire the Hindi remake rights of Beast for an astronomical sum. The idea to acquire the film is based on the producer's assessment of the script, which is a hostage-based invasion thriller. In fact, a top producer, who is known to be on good terms with multiple biggies of Southern industry, is on the verge of cracking the deal for a Hindi remake,” revealed a source close to the development.

While a sub-track in Beast is set against the backdrop of the Indian army, the core premise of it unfolds in a mall, which is taken over by terror outfits. It’s about how Vijay manages to take control and rescue all the hostages safely without many casualties. It’s said to be a treat for Thalapathy Vijay fans, who will get to see him in a completely new avatar. The action is said to be raw and real, with ample elevation scenes for Vijay. There’s also a strong emotional subtext to the story that’s brought in by the sub-plot of the Indian army. It features Pooja Hegde as his love interest. Beast is touted to be one of the most awaited Tamil films of 2022.

After Beast, Vijay moves on to Dil Raju’s upcoming production, Thalapathy 66, to be helmed by Vamsi Paidipally. It’s said to be one of the biggest Tamil – Telugu multilingual, with talents from both industries coming on board. Interestingly, Vijay’s Master is gearing up for a Hindi remake and the rights are acquired by Murad Khetani. The film is currently in the scripting stage and the producer is expected to proceed to cast soon. Master was initially offered to Salman Khan, however, the actor wasn’t too keen to take up another south remake and hence let it pass.

Once again the box office is slowing down and with the incoming wave of increasing CoVID cases, there are chances of a complete shutdown. There isn’t much to report on the front of the current box office, so we are going to do some 2021 round-up stories this week, starting today with the top grosser in Tamil Nadu during last year and "fingers crossed" on box office to remain open for the upcoming releases like Valimai and Bangarraju.

2021, however, started a bit better, CoVID cases were on the decline, and Master was released to a blockbuster response. The Vijay Starrer was released with social distancing restrictions, despite that went on to become the third-biggest grosser ever in the state, just behind Baahubali 2 and Vigil. Then there was a dry period for the next two months with no major releases. Just before things were starting to heat up for summer with the release of  Karnan, the box office hit another break with CoVID 2nd wave in April, and this lasted full summer, with cinemas only opening in August. The real opening though was only in October with the release of Doctor. Siva Karthikeyan Starrer became his biggest grosser ever grossing Rs. 70 crores. A lot was expected from Rajinikanth’s Diwali release  Annaatthe, but the film succumbed to mixed responses after a good opening. The year ended relatively better with three good Grossers, Maanaadu, Spider-man: No Way Home, and Pushpa.

The overall box office did well in pockets in the state, but it never really get going with continuous breaks and dry release periods. There was only one film over Rs. 100 crores as compared to three in 2019. The fact there were three dubbed films in the top ten Grossers is never a good sign for the overall health of the box office.

Over the last few months, there have been ample speculations around the release date of Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited actioner, Beast directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The Tamil trade had confirmed a Pongal 2022 release for the film. However, Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that the much-awaited film is all set for a Summer 2022 opening in cinema halls across the globe.

“The team of Beast was looking to release during the Pongal weekend; however, the shooting took longer than expected and hence have decided on delaying the film to the Summer 2022 window (April End). The team has shot nearly 60% of the film already and the remaining portions will be shot over a period of the next two months,” revealed a source close to the development.

The source further added that Vijay, Nelson, and Sun Pictures are expecting a wrap on Beast by November 20. “The film moves into the post-production stage thereafter,” the source added. Sometime back, the Valimai team announced their arrival for the festive season of Pongal. “They were looking at several dates – from Diwali to December 9 and Pongal. After discussions with exhibitors, distributors, and competitors, they all finally unanimously decided on a Pongal opening,” informed the source.

Talking about Beast, our sources inform us that the film rides on a realistic plot set against the backdrop of a mall taken over by the terrorists resulting in a hostage-like situation. The film is loaded with strong and raw human emotions around Thalapathy Vijay’s character and the entire team is excited about the same. We are keeping the character traits of Vijay under wraps to maintain intrigue around the plot but be assured of some solid elevation scenes throughout the narrative. Anbar's action is said to be the major highlight of Beast, which features Pooja Hegde as the female lead.

A bench comprising justices M Duraiswamy and R Hemalatha on Tuesday has stayed the order passed by the single-judge bench. The counsel representing the actor said Vijay was ready to pay the entire tax amount but wanted the "uncharitable" remarks made by the single judge against the actor's community to be expunged.

According to a report in The News Minute, the court had earlier said that a reputed actor like him is "expected to pay the tax promptly and punctually" and should not just remain a "mere reel-life hero." Justice SM Subramaniam of the Madras High Court made a harsh comment against the actor. "Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude, and mindset and unconstitutional. These actors are portraying themselves as champions of bringing social justice to society. Their pictures are against corrupt activities in society. But, they are evading tax and acting in a manner, which is not in consonance with the provisions of the statutes," the court had said in its order.  Post this statement, Vijay moved to High Court regarding the observations made on him and not against paying the tax.

Actor-singer Andrea Jeremiah, who was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Master, has hands with filmmaker Mysskin for the sequel to his hit horror flick. This film marks the second collaboration between Andrea and Mysskin after Thupparivaalan.

On the other hand, Thalapathy Vijay will be next seen in the film Beast directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film’s first look poster was revealed on the evening of Vijay’s birthday as a surprise to his fans. The film has Pooja Hegde as the leading lady, while Anirudh Ravichander will be composing music. The makers were shooting the film in Georgia, while reports suggest that the first two schedules of the film were wrapped up. He was last seen in the college drama Master, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj with Malavika Mohanan as the leading lady.
