Actor Tanuj Virwani is all set to be seen in the crime thriller 'Abhay 3'. It also features Kunal Kemmu and Divya Aggarwal in key roles. The actor who has been part of shows such as 'Inside Edge 3', 'Illegal 2', 'Cartel' and 'Kamathipura', is willing to give his best for his recent project.

Talking about the show the actor reveals: "I have been a fan of the show. I love these psychological crime thrillers and I was hoping to get something in this genre. I was very happy when the makers approached me for 'Abhay.' 'Abhay' almost didn't work out because of dates and look continuity as I was simultaneously shooting for other shows. I just got lucky because another show which I was doing got postponed and that helped me shoot for 'Abhay'."

Tanuj was looking forward to working with her again and shared: "Divya and I have worked on ' Cartel' together. She has been a buddy and is a dear friend of mine. It was awesome to collaborate with her on something completely different from what we have done before. 'Cartel' was released last year and has done really well. She won 'Bigg Boss'. We had a lot to catch up on. We are both very chatty as people and had a blast shooting Abhay."

Tanuj Virwani who was recently seen in Cartel is now gearing up for Inside Edge season 3. “I am not at the liberty to speak too much about my character’s progression in season 3 of Inside Edge because it’s still a few months away from release. What I can say, however, is that season 3 picks up pretty much from where season 2 ended. So, it’s very organic and I’m not just speaking about my character but all the other returning characters as well,” shares Tanuj.

The actor informs that the makers have tried something very different in the upcoming season of the show. “Hopefully you guys will appreciate the efforts taken by the makers. It is a stand-out show for me and I am a huge fan of it along with being a part of the cast. I can’t wait for you guys to watch it,” says Tanuj. He also speaks about the need to regulate content on OTT platforms. “I have always been of the belief that with great power comes great responsibility. OTT platforms started popping up all over the country and they were not really regulated. So sometimes I feel that the type of content that was out, visibly the sex scenes, or the kind of language that was used was not very nice because there are two sorts of things that can happen,” says Tanuj.

He further explains, “One is, are you following your script, is it organically happening, are you being faithful to the story that you want to tell. In that case, by all means, go ahead and do it, but I feel a lot of people started doing it just to grab eyeballs, to sensationalize the event to titillate things. I think that’s not right. I feel we need to hold a mirror to ourselves and be like ‘We have to have a higher standard’ because we want people of all communities, ages, and backgrounds to be able to watch our content. At the end of the day, we are making content to entertain, enlighten and educate you guys and show you that this is what the world is today. It’s a shame when the focus gets put on these elements as opposed to the material itself. I think it’s time that the content is regulated, but it must be done so in a very fair manner.”

Tanuj informs that Inside Edge 3 might be his next release on Amazon Prime Video. “After that, I have got Code M 2 with  Jennifer Winget on Alt Balaji. Then we have got Illegal season 2 with Neha Sharma, Akshay Oberoi, Piyush Mishra, and a bunch of really talented actors, which I am extremely excited about. I also finished a film called Johnny Jumper. It’s a film I am doing with Brijendra Kala, Zakir Hussain and the one and only Vijay Raaz. There is a lot more in the pipeline and I hope I get busier and busier by the day,” Tanuj signs off.

Actor Tanuj Virwani, whose Cartel was released yesterday has many more web shows in the pipeline, including Code M 2, Inside Edge 3, and Illegal 2. “I consider myself extremely fortunate and grateful that irrespective of what is going on in the world and our country - because of the pandemic, work has been steady and has been coming. More importantly, it’s good quality work. It’s the best feeling in the world when you are on a set that makes you happy, gives you creative satisfaction, and you know that you’re creating something unique, which will hopefully resonate,” shares Tanuj.

Further speaking about Cartel, the actor says that the show is extremely close to his heart, and they have been working on it for the last 2 years. “It’s a massive project, very well mounted, huge in scale, and has amazing actors in it. With this family, which is the crime syndicate family of Mumbai, they have their hands in every aspect whether it’s politics, land, property, water, Bollywood, or cricket you name it, they control everything. So I play Major Bhau aka Arjun Mhatre who is a very important part of this criminal family, and it’s been an amazing experience. It’s a really long show with 14 episodes, 40-minutes each. We shot over 132 days. We have over 138 actors from television, web series, films as well as theatres. Ekta (Kapoor) ma’am has left no stone unturned to make sure that she has given her all and given us the best facilities,” he shares.

Before foraying into the webspace, Tanuj has even done a couple of films. Does he believe that he didn’t get his due as an actor in movies? “I think it would be unfair to say that. I did not get my dues as an actor for films for the simple reason that I have only done 3 films and I was a lot younger, a lot more naive, and immature. I would even go to the extent of saying quite insecure because there are so many combinations that have to fall into place for an actor to make it in the movies and I don’t think I took it seriously enough at that time. So, in hindsight when I look back, I am grateful and happy that I tasted failure in my life before success. With my fire, my hunger, my quest for excellence, I feel that I have a lot more untapped potential,” states the actor.

He further adds, “I feel I was not prepared well enough, I did not work hard enough, I was not focused enough, and I just made the wrong choices, be it the project that I chose or the acting. Sometimes I think it is destiny, no matter what you try or what you want to happen, it does not happen. It’s not like I worked harder or put in a lot more effort on Inside Edge than I did on any of my other projects prior to that, but when something resonates with the audience, it just does. Trust me, failure teaches you a whole lot more than success. So, I’m very proud of my failures because they have sculpted the individual that I am today and I hope I have equal amounts of success and failure, so I keep growing as a person and performer,” Tanuj signs off.

Tanuj Virwani rose to fame with the web show, Inside Edge, which featured him as a flamboyant cricketer, Vayu Raghavan. Ever since then, the actor has been on a roll signing multiple shows for the digital world. Through the lockdown, he completed four assignments, including the patchwork of Inside Edge 3. When asked about the experience of shooting in the midst of a pandemic, the actor said, “The first couple of days were nerve-wracking, as that’s not really how you expect the set to be. There was a lot of social distancing, but it became the new normal after some days.”

The actor informs that he got tested 23 times for the virus, as he was shooting for multiple stuff throughout the pandemic. “Every time I got on the flight, I had to be tested. But it was a good thing, as it kept my family members safe,” he smiled.  Apart from Inside Edge 3, he also has a new show titled Cartel, which is gearing up for a premiere soon in the digital world. Tanuj describes it as a gangster drama, set against the backdrop of Mumbai. “Cartel is a saga of three brothers from the crime family, who control property and land mafia in the Aarey area of Mumbai,” he informed.

Tanuj further added, “It has got a great start-cast and I am really excited because it’s something I have not attempted before. It took around 130-days to complete because it’s a really big and ambitious show. I hope it lives onto our expectations. It was tough because 50% of the show was shot during the pandemic and hats off to our producer, Ekta Kapoor, and everyone involved.” The cartel also features Tannishtha Chatterjee, Supriya Pathak, Monia Dogra, Rithvik Dhanjani, and Jitendra Joshi in key roles and is gearing up to premiere by the end of this year.

After the success of Inside Edge and its second season, there is ample wait for the third season of this fictional show speaking about the scandalous world of cricket. While the first season touched upon the topic of match-fixing, the second one dealt with the controversial subject of doping in sports. The Karan Anshuman directorial features Vivek Oberoi as the antagonist with Richa Chaddha, Tanuj Virwani, and Angad Bedi in key roles. The subject of season 3 has been kept under wraps for now and the show at present is in the post-production stage.

Pinkvilla got in touch with Tanuj Virwani, who plays the role of a dynamic batsman, Vayu Raghavan, a hotheaded star player of the cricket league. In a candid chat, the actor assured us that season 3 will certainly live up to the expectation of the audience. “I have played Vayu Raghavan in 3 different seasons and every time, I did that series, I was in a different stage in my life. It’s interesting because there’s a part of me and a part of the character. The performance is consistent, but there is a gradual evolution of the character,” he said.

When asked about the pressures of being associated with something as big as Inside Edge and the actor smiled, “I was terrified before the season two, because we were returning after a gap of two and a half years. But this, I am not thinking about yet, because we don’t have the exact release date. Yes, the shooting is wrapped up, but everything is too slow because of COVID.” He added, “However, I can vouch for the fact that everybody has done the best that they could. What I like about Inside Edge is the fact that we don’t try to rehash, but instead take the story forward. Season 3 is going to be completely different from what one has seen so far. Some will see it as a bold step taken by the team. I am optimistic.”

Prod him on more details and he signs off, “It literally picks up right from the point where the second season ended. There was a time leap of 7 months in season two as compared to one, but here, it’s right from the point of season 2 end. We often joke about it being like Infinity War and End Game.” Apart from Inside Edge, Tanuj has 3 more web series under his kitty and we would reveal them one at a time. Stay tuned for more such exclusives on Inside Edge 3, and other updates on Tanuj.

Tanuj Virwani, one of the lesser-known star kids, who debuted in 'Luv u Soniyo', is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming film 'Purani Jeans'. Tanuj is working with his mother Rati Agnihotri in the film, and Izabelle Leite(who he was rumored to have dated). Tanuj recently spoke to GlamSham about the film and his future plans in Bollywood. When asked about actresses that he aspires to work with, though he mentioned Alia Bhatt and Parineeti Chopra, one name shone through for him. Tanuj expressed '' I don’t know if I will ever get the chance to, but I am a die-hard Kareena Kapoor fan since I first saw the promos of REFUGEE back in 2000. Working with Kareena Kapoor is my ultimate dream''. Incidentally Tanuj's mother, Rati Agnihotri has worked with Kareena Kapoor in two films ( Dev and Yaadein). Tanuj joins a list of newcomers who are eagerly awaiting work with Kareena Kapoor Khan!

Bollywood's newcomer Tanuj Virwani, who will be next seen in the forthcoming film "Purani Jeans", says he is a "mamma's boy".Directed by Tanushri Chatterji Bassu, the film releases on May 2 in Indian theatres. The 26-year-old said he's the only child and gets pampered at home by his mother and actress Rati Agnihotri who makes him his favorite chocolate Oreo milkshake when he comes home after a tiring day." I think I'm quite a mamma's boy. I don't have a sibling. I'm the only one. So I get spoiled and pampered at home," Tanuj said in a telephonic interview with IANS."It always feels nice when you come home at the end of a tiring day and mom gives me something nice to eat or she'll make my favorite Oreo cookie shake.

It feels really special. It's the thought that counts," added the actor. His mom not only pampers him, but she also helps him in the promotion of his film. Meanwhile, Tanuj clarifies that his mother didn't feature in his debut "Love U Soniyo" and things have been wrongly reported in the past."Purani Jeans" is the first film in which Tanuj is sharing the screen space with his mother."I started shooting the scenes of my film 'Purani Jeans' with my mom. I was a bit nervous with the shoots, but I reasoned with myself and thought that I can use this off-screen chemistry I share with my mother as an advantage and boss up the scene. I tried to treat my mother like I would any other co-star in the movie."When asked whether he will be seen with his mother again in films, he said: "This isn't my last film. There is no hard and fast rule that she has to be in every film of mine. I'll sure be doing a lot of films where she is not going to be a part of it."

One-film-old Tanuj Virwani says all films are a reflection and product of the times that "we live in".The youngster, who made his debut in 2013 with Joe Rajan directed "Love U Soniyo", which sank without a trace at the box office, will now be seen in "Purani Jeans", which talks about friendship and the protagonist believes that "friendship is like a pair of old jeans - the older it gets, the better it becomes".The 26-year-old feels that the theme of love, family, and friendship is "universal", "but the treatment meted out to the film ('Purani Jeans') is quite different." At the end of the day, whether it is we as human beings or films that we make, it is the product of the times that you live in.

The films made in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s were all diversely different. We all are in now 2014," Tanuj told IANS in a telephonic interview."This is my second film. There is no college or campus in our film. It's a film that salvages life and youth," he added. Directed by Tanushri Chatterji Bassu, "Purani Jeans" also stars Aditya Seal and Izabelle Leite in the lead roles. It is set to release on May 2. Talking about his camaraderie with his co-stars, he said: "Most of us are newcomers and it was important for us to share good screen chemistry. I got along with everyone, be it Izabelle, Aditya, or all the others in the film. If you are genuinely involved with someone that translates on the screen. You cannot fake that on the screen."The actor, who worked as an assistant director in "Aao Wish Karein" and "Chance Pe Dance", also shares the screen space with his mother and actress Rati Agnihotri "Purani Jeans"

Although he has so far done only two films, he feels an actor should not get stuck with the same kind of roles. "I'd like to do a nice thriller, something edgy, something racy because it is important to keep surprising and exploring yourself. Otherwise, the audience will get bored of you easily," he said when asked about his choice of roles in the future. He takes inspiration from Aamir Khan and believes that an actor needs to reinvent himself."Whether it's a commercial or a feature film, Aamir Khan constantly reinvents himself and that is very inspiring for me personally." He has a few films in his kitty." I have been signed by Eros Entertainment for a three-film contract. 'Purani jeans' is the first of the three films," he said. Although he has started his journey in filmdom as an actor, his long-term dreams include going behind the camera to say "cut".He said: "I have always had this 'Keeda' of wanting to be a director. I have made a lot of flop films, which I had written, directed, and even acted in some. Not in the near future, but at some point, I would like to explore filmmaking."
