Speaking to us from there, Shiny says, “It is a six-day plan. I had to finish shooting for these six days before I could come here. Lavish and I love traveling together and we have been to so many countries before. But one thing which we both have in common is our love for the water. When we talked about our honeymoon we knew that no matter where we go, it will have to be someplace near the water. So the Maldives it is for us. It was on our bucket list too, so now we are finally here."
In a chat with us after her wedding, the actress had said, “We wanted the COVID-19 situation to get better and had originally planned to tie the knot in November or December. However, my mother was keen on us getting married soon, as there is no surety on how things will be then. So, we decided to get married almost overnight. In fact, we had planned to opt for a court marriage on July 15 and have a big fat wedding by the end of this year. However, we had to advance it by a week, as the BMC office was taking a break for a month. So, my mother insisted on having a small ceremony with rituals at home on July 15. My wedding was literally organized overnight.”

The Saraswatichandra fame actress, Shiny Doshi has carved her own niche in the Indian television industry through her outstanding stint on the show. And now, the actress is on cloud nine! Well, the more a bestie is excited about her friend’s wedding, the excitement level multiplies tenfold when your bestie is going to embrace motherhood. Well, Shiny Doshi is currently going through that eagerness level.
Recently, on April 4, 2019, Shiny’s bestie, Nidhi Kurda Khurana held a baby shower party and the Maasi-to-be couldn’t control her excitement. Shiny looked her best in a lovely plain pink slip dress, and she chose to keep her hair open along with subtle makeup. The mommy-to-be, Nidhi looked dazzling in a white off-shoulder dress, teaming it up with a lovely sleek matching hairband. Along with Shiny, television actresses, Rashami Desai, Pranita Pandit, and Vinny Arora Dhoopar were also present at the do.
For someone who started her career as a model, she appeared in a TV commercial opposite Saif Ali Khan and then did many more TVCs. In a friendly chat, she talks about her journey from Ahmedabad to the glam world.
Commenting on the show, Shiny says, “When I moved to Mumbai, I had never really given a thought to daily soaps. I had been modeling and was looking forward to a career in films and commercials. But I always wanted to work with Sanjayji because of the way he shoots a film or a show and makes everything look very picturesque. He has a great vision. I waited for one year because I shot the pilot for this show one and a half years back. I got offers in the meantime and I did commercials but this was the show I wanted to make my debut with. I’m choosy about my work.”
Shiny tells us how she shoots extensively for the show and works 13-14 hours a day for 25 days a month. She says, “I have not gone home for three months. I have never worked so hard in my life. I’m very particular about my workout and yoga.” The actress, who is already fit, adds, “I am trying to lose more weight.”
For Shiny, acting had not been the first career choice. She says, “Everybody in my family is into academics. My mom is very artistic. So I thought I’ll do something related to art which is why I studied fashion design in Ahmedabad. I love Ahmedabad and all my friends are there. I really miss home.” But destiny had other plans and Shiny tried her hand at modeling.
As the conversation veers towards her relationship status, Shiny says, “Yes, I’m committed. I am dating someone from the industry and he’s actually from Ahmedabad. He has been very supportive and I want to get married to him soon!”
The actress is a self-confessed foodie. She says, “I love dancing. And I like to do something creative. Otherwise, I like lazying around and I love eating out. I am a complete foodie.” About her future plans, she says, “I am still getting a lot of ads and I will continue doing advertisements. As of now, my complete focus is on the show.”

Apart from these popular names, there will also be other names in the show which have been confirmed including Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar and Shiny Doshi. The actress Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar is a very popular name on Indian television. She has been part of shows like Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10. She has worked in TV shows including Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, and others.
Shiny Doshi is also a popular actress who has worked in numerous shows including, Kusum Desai in Saraswatichandra, Sarojini Singh in Sarojini, Mahi Sengupta in Jamai Raja, and Radha in Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran. She was also a part of Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 and at present, she is playing the role of Dhara Pandya in StarPlus's show Pandya Store.
Shiny Doshi, who started her career with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut TV show, Sarawatichandra has come a long way into the industry. The actress is currently winning hearts as Dhara in Panday Store and has become a household name because of the popularity of her character. Shiny joined ETimes TV, for our exclusive segment Tellybiazer, and opened up about her struggles, her early days in the city, facing financial issues at the beginning of her career, and more. She shared that it was her mother's dream to see her as an actress and she is the one who first saw the spark in her. She supported her dreams and even sold her gold jewelry to send her to Mumbai to make her career. Talking about her growing up years, Shiny shared that her parent's separation was the most difficult phase in her life and how instead of getting into a depression she decided to channel all her energies toward work.
The primary reasons for me to do Pandya Store were the channel and the production. I knew when these two parties would join hands something magical would happen. I knew if they make a show it will stay in the audience's hearts forever and which has happened. To be very honest I’ve manifested this way before and I knew it is going to reach many people. I knew we were going to receive a lot of love. The journey has been really nice and when I signed the show I went through many workshops. My character has been written very beautifully by our writer Shilpa. It feels amazing to receive so much love when you put in a lot of hard work.
Off-screen also we bond really well. I would like to say one thing Akshay and Mohit both call me Bhabhi offscreen also. They never address me by my name and they love me the same way in real life as their characters on the show. That bond has become for life with Akshay and Mohit and Kinshuk also. We have become a family now. I am glad that I am working with these people and I have such amazing artists. I am there on the sets for 12-13 hours a day and spend more time with the star cast than my real family. They are the people who make work so much fun and there is so much entertainment happening on the sets every day. The scenes we shoot are so much fun.
With Krutika Desai Ji my bond developed slowly and gradually. I still remember when I signed the show and learned that she will be playing my mother-in-law in the show, I was very excited to work with her. On my first day, my first scene was with her and I was shivering because she is such an amazing actor. In the show she plays a paralytic person, so she was just lying on the bed but the way she did the scene with her eyes, and the way she emoted the scene, still gives me goosebumps. I still remember that scene very well. Later, I started observing her, and to see her perform live is a very different feeling. You learn so much from her. All the people on our set will say that it is always a great feeling to work with her. She does justice to the scenes and to the writer’s writing. The amount of love Dhara my character gives Maa, I share that same feeling for her. She’s very helpful whenever we sit together to discuss a scene. She tells me beforehand how she wants to go about it. When I am working with her I don’t need to take glycerine, the tears come out naturally. It is a blessing to work with her.
I totally agree with you. The amount of love and appreciation I have got for Dhara from Pandya Store I’ve never got before. Viewers have loved Dhara so much that I had never ever imagined in my life. I did not know that so many people would relate to my character. 90 percent of the messages that I get from people are that they want to be like Dhara. There are men who message me and say that they want a sister-in-law like Dhara. Family dramas work very well with viewers if they are rightly made and people relate to them a lot. So far in my career the roles I’ve played people have always praised my beauty, they say I look very pretty in the show. Acting-wise my mother is my biggest critic and now my husband also, keeps telling me that they watch few of my scenes and they give me their feedback. With Pandya Store, 99 percent of the messages that I get people don’t talk about the way I look, instead they talk about my performances. They tell me that they cry with me while watching emotional scenes. That itself speaks volumes for me that my hard work is getting noticed.
I had never imagined in my life that I would become an actress one day. It was always my mother's dream and she felt that I should do TV. I still remember Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was taking a leap and they were casting Tulsi’s daughter. She pushed me so much for the audition and I cried literally while leaving home and asked her why are you making me do this, I don’t want to do this stuff. I was studying at that time and did not understand these things. I wanted to be a doctor and I would ask her to let me study. But she would take me for different auditions and because of her interest and force, I got a portfolio done. When I saw my pictures from my portfolio, I couldn’t recognize myself as I was looking very different. That was one turning point where I felt I had the potential and it gave me a lot of confidence in the life to go ahead. I was doing my graduation from Ahmedabad and coming to Mumbai and giving auditions was not easy. I had never stayed in Mumbai, I was born here but I never stayed here to understand the locals and how Mumbai and the industry function. It was a very different process as wherever I would go, casting directors would ask me for my pictures or would recommend making a card.
I’ve gone through that process, I’ve done it and because of that process, I got a few projects. I got Saraswati Chandra. It was a very difficult show. I didn’t know how to face the camera or stand according to the light. I had no technical knowledge. I learned everything on the job by observing people. I would watch Jennifer Winget or Gautam Rode perform. The show had Alpna Buch, and Yatin Karyekar, the show had stalwarts that became my learning ground. During that time I realized that I think I am made for this.
It’s not like I haven’t faced rejections. Everyone has gone through it and so have I. While I was giving auditions for TV shows, I was also doing a lot of print ads and TV commercials. I was earning something. Also coming from a middle-class family I had a lot of responsibilities on my head and frankly by doing TV commercials, Print Ads I was earning decent and managing my house. But the struggle was on and I have given nearly 30-40 auditions. Only after giving so many auditions did I finally end up getting Saraswati Chandra. But I never gave up thinking I can’t do it because there was something happening. I never reached that frustration level that nothing is working. God has been really kind enough. Whenever I would get rejected I would call up people and ask what was the reason. They used to give me genuine feedback. That you looked modern or acting was not that great, we want a girl next door look. I always took this feedback very positively and then went for the next auditions. I would work on my acting and keep my looks simple and subtle. I was never scared to know where I was going wrong.
As I said I never gave up in life. I had my mother’s support with me. She stood like a rock with me. There were times when I used to crash down, cry and weep and tell her that I don’t know where life is going and if I am doing it right. But she used to always give me positive thoughts. She would tell me 'just do your work and leave everything to God, he will handle everything.' She asked me to work hard. That one thing kept me going. I went through a major financial crisis at one point in time as we all know it is not easy to live in a city like Mumbai. I went through a lot of ups and downs in life.
Because this profession is so unpredictable there is no guarantee that you will find your next project immediately. The time between two projects can be long and you exhaust all your savings in that. It starts playing in your mind that you are losing out on all your savings and when you will get work. But I don’t regret anything because I have seen those times and that’s why I am able to cherish these moments now.
My childhood has been great and my parents were always there for me. And everything was taken care of, be it school fees or my daily needs. There were no liabilities at that point in time but once you go out to earn money, the real struggle starts from there. In my case, my parents got separated when I was very young. I was just 16-18 and that time was very challenging as I had to look after my mother and my siblings. During that time my entire family was going through a lot of struggles. We were broken down mentally and financially. But I never gave up in life. During those days the major challenge was to get through the auditions and get the show. What I used to do in those days.
I would get up every morning, get ready and wear a Kurti and leggings and carry a bag that had a saree and casual looks and I would roam around from one studio to another and give at least 4/5 auditions in a day. This was the biggest challenge in my life to get work. Luckily, my hard work and also luck favored me, I got work. In my career 90 percent of the time, I have got shows without any auditions. I got SaraswatiChandra also that way. I was at another audition for a different production house but someone from the channel was present there and that person spotted me. They spoke to my mother who had accompanied me for the audition. They offered me the show and the next day I met them at their office and gave an audition for the role and I bagged the project.
