Rashid Khan plays for the Indian cricket team. while Afghanistan will look to make a mark and cause some upsets.

The first Day/Night game of the World Cup will be staged between Australia and Afghanistan. The defending champions are the favorites for the trophy once again, while Afghanistan will look to make a mark and cause some upsets. The clash between Rashid Khan and Steven Smith, returning after a ban, though is what fans will be eager to witness.
With Imran Tahir being used in the first over of South Africa's World Cup opener against England, it might not be a surprise to see Rashid Khan follow the same path. Tahir had gotten a wicket off just his second ball, once again emphasizing how crucial wrist-spinners will be in the event. In Rashid, Afghanistan has one of the best in its ranks. In the event of David Warner's injury, all attention will be on Smith. Widely considered as one of the best batters in this era, he tends to struggle against the spinners - something which we witnessed in the IPL as well.
With Rashid likely to get some drift on the ball, he could get the ball to move away or into him. Smith is often left perplexed when faced with such situations, and he might struggle to get under the bowler. Though the duo has never met in ODIs, they have played in the IPL, with the Afghan prevailing over him, dismissing him once with Smith batting at a strike rate of 72.73 against Rashid.
Afghanistan received a major blow in their match against New Zealand as one of their most crucial players; Rashid Khan injured himself after being hit on the head. It was a bouncer bowled by New Zealand’s fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson in the first innings of the game. The Afghanistan bowler did not bowl for the rest of the match and they lost their third match in the tournament by 7 wickets.
However, Skipper Gulbadin Naib is confident of a speed-recovery of the Afghanistan bowler and said that Afghani people are strong and it is just a small thing. Speaking of his injury, Skipper Gulbadin Naib updated that Rashid is feeling better now and the doctors asked him to not go to the field for a couple of days. He mentioned that Rashid needs rest and the team obviously has a couple of days off before their next clash against South Africa.
"I asked the physio if he needed rest, some headache. We have a rest of one week for the other game. So now he's feeling well. So he should go to the hospital and check for some tests. He's well. Afghani people are strong. So it's just a small thing," he added. It was the third consecutive loss for the team in the tournament. Afghanistan lost their first game against the Aussies by 7 wickets and their second one against Sri Lanka by 34 runs Afghanistan will play their next game against the Proteas on Saturday, 15th June at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
Afghanistan will look to create a major upset as they face Bangladesh in a one-off test, which got underway on Thursday. The match will also be remembered for ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan, breaking the record of becoming the youngest player ever to lead a Test side.
Rashid, who turned 20 years and 350 days on Thursday, surpassed the record of Tatenda Taibu who led Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka at Harare in 2004 at the age of 20 years and 358 days. Third on the list is Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who was 21 years and 77 days old when he led India against the West Indies in Bridgetown in 1962. Afghanistan had named Rashid as captain for all formats of the game following the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign in England and Wales earlier this year.
Afghanistan obtained Test status in 2017 and while they were thrashed by India inside two days in their opening Test in June 2018, they managed to come good in their second Test as they defeated fellow newcomer Ireland by seven wickets to earn their maiden win in the longest format. Afghanistan is not a part of the ICC World Test Championship as only the top nine full member nations are competing in a total of 71 Tests across 27 bilateral series over two years.
Rashid Khan followed up his first innings fifer with a six-wicket haul as Afghanistan made short work of the Bangladesh tail to record a historic win here on Monday. This is the first time Afghanistan won a Test away from home in what was their first away Test. They beat Bangladesh by 224 runs. The first two sessions of Day 5 were washed out which meant that Afghanistan was left with just one session to try and take the last four Bangladesh wickets. They didn't take long to get started though with Zahir Khan dismissing Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan off the very first ball of the day.
Rashid then alternated himself with Zahir, Qais Ahmed, and Mohammad Nabi -- who was playing his final Test match -- and soon dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. However, with the clouds hovering menacingly over the stadium, Soumya Sarkar blocked the bowlers for nearly four overs. Rashid at one point managed to get a leading edge off Sarkar which fell tantalizingly short of mid-off. Finally, with just four overs left in the day, Rashid managed to get an inside edge off Sarkar and it fell into the hands of the short leg, sparking wild celebrations from the Afghanistan players. That was Rashid's 11th wicket of the match. Bangladesh was set a target of 398 and they were all out for 173.
Afghanistan is one of the fast-improving sides across all three formats of the game. Recently, playing only their third Test match, they beat Bangladesh in the one-off Test and reached the final of the tri-series featuring Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. In fact, the final game against Bangladesh was washed out without a single ball being bowled. According to the current FTP, Afghanistan isn’t playing a lot of big sides in the coming years. Their next bilateral series against Bangladesh is in March 2022 with three ODIs and two T20Is after which they play Australia in two Tests and three ODIs.Skipper Rashid Khan felt that his side needed frequent and better tours to improve their standards.
He said, "We should have longer series against Bangladesh, like have the main focus on 50 overs and Test matches. Cricket boards should think about it. There should be a three-match Test series. More 50 overs and Tests would be better for both nations."As they have hardly had the opportunities to play quality pace bowlers, the skipper feels that it had hampered their chances at the ICC World Cup 2019 where they finished at the bottom of the table."We have played only twice against Australia, New Zealand, and England in the last five years. If we played more against them, we could have known their strengths and weaknesses. It should be looked into. The best example is Bangladesh. They played a lot against South Africa and ended up having the best result against them in the World Cup.
If we want to be a good side, we should play more against the top sides. Not one match in four years. These teams have four fast bowlers who bowl 140 plus. We play against Scotland and Ireland, and they hardly have a 140-plus bowler."Afghanistan's eventual goal is to be a part of the ICC World Test Championship."We are quite sad not to be part of the World Test Championship, but I think all we can do right now is play good Test cricket, to prove that decision wrong. But at the same time, you can't put aside in the championship who has played only three Tests."
