The news that actress  Kanika Mann would be playing the grown-up Bondita after the leap on the TV show  Barriser Babu had been doing the rounds for a while now. And though it was almost confirmed that Kanika had been finalized to play the role of the grown-up Bondita, we now hear that the actress has backed out of the show When we reached out to Kanika, she said, "Yes, it is true that as of now I am not playing the grown-up Bondita though I was really excited to be a part of the show." Elaborating further, she said, "I was finalized for the role but I had not signed the contract. The leap was taking some time and meanwhile, I got this really good offer for a project. I had a word with the producer of the show Shashi (Mittal) ma'am before taking up the OTT project and she was okay with the decision."

Meanwhile, we hear that the makers have started auditioning actresses again for the role. The names of v Meera Deosthale and Adaa Khan are doing the rounds. A source said, "The makers wanted to cast Kanika but things didn't work out between them. Kanika couldn't wait as she had an interesting offer for a web show and anyway she had not signed the contract. The auditions are on in full swing and the makers and the channel haven't zeroed in on anyone's name yet."Incidentally, if the leap gets delayed and Kanika gets free from her other shoot, she just might be the one again to play the role. "Shashi ma'am had said that if my OTT project wraps up before the leap, they will cast me in this role," shared Kanika.

She spilled the secrets about what happened when she revealed to her parents that she wants to become an actress, in a recent conversation with the Times of India. She said that it was extremely difficult for her to convince her father, and she was not sure if he would ever agree to her decision. Since she knew her father would never approve of her acting career, she initially thought of hiding it from him and going ahead. However, her idea would not have lasted long. It would be impossible to hide it from him as it would have come on TV even if she did not inform him.

The actress shot for a music video without letting him know, and he came to know about it when he viewed it on TV.  Watching her in the song, Kanika's father was left aghast and she was schooled a lot. Things were so out of hand, that her father even asked her to leave her studies. He had decided to get her married and was not ready to listen to her. They accused Kanika of 'defaming' their family name by wanting to become an actress. Kanika said, 'My relatives actually said that we had sent you to Chandigarh and you are defaming us by doing such things.'
