FATIMA SANA SHAIKH WIKI, AGE, BOYFRIEND, FAMILY, BIOGRAPHY & MORE

Fatima Sana Shaikh is currently soaking in some well-deserved praise and love for her performance in Shonali Bose’s Raat Rani, one of the six films in Pritish Nandy’s anthology Modern Love Mumbai. In the film, Fatima is seen essaying a nuanced portrayal of Lalzari, or Lali, a Kashmiri immigrant in Mumbai, who, among other things, dreams of taking her two-wheeler on the city’s famous Sea Link Bridge. Recently, she also featured in Raj Singh Chaudhary’s Thar starring Anil Kapoor and Harsh Vardhan Kapoor. Next, in her pipeline, is Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur which will also feature Vicky Kaushal and Sanya Malhotra. Recently, Fatima joined Pinkvilla for a candid conversation and spilled the beans about working with her co-actors.

When asked if she’s excited to start working with Vicky and Sanya Malhotra in the upcoming film, Fatima was happy to respond, “Yes! I keep on meeting Sanya anyway. We won’t be ‘acting’ together – it will be something like Ludo. We will have some passing moments together. So, it’s not like we are working together, but just the fact that we will be together in the same film is very special. And I think we are lucky for each other! (giggles) And Vicky is a sweetheart. So, it’s going to be a lot of fun! And I am a big fan of Meghna.”

For the unversed, Fatima will soon be essaying the role of Smt Indira Gandhi in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur. It’s a biopic on the life of former Chief of the Army Staff and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, known as Sam Bahadur. Vicky Kaushal will be seen playing the titular role, while Sanya Malhotra will be seen portraying the role of his wife Silloo Manekshaw. The film is bankrolled by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and will reportedly hit the floors in August this year.

Fatima Sana Shaikh left cine-goers and critics in awe with her act as Geeta Phogat in the 2016 film Dangal. And now, a few years later, she is once again making headlines with her performance as a Kashmiri immigrant, Lalzari, in Shonali Bose’s Raat Rani: one of the six movies in Between 2016 and 2022, Fatima featured in select few movies, out of which, most have an ensemble cast. In one of her earlier interviews, she shared that she used to be nervous about being the lead actor and found support in multi-Starters. So, it’s only a pleasant surprise that the actress could not only carry her latest film on her shoulders, but also she did it with such brilliance. Recently, I connected with Fatima and talked about the same.

If Farhan Akhtar's Jee Le Zara took social media by storm, there's another female road-tripper that's all set to grace the big screen. Remember the popular US anthology series Modern Love which presented six diverse stories presenting different shades of love? Well, the series just got a desi twist to it with Modern Love Mumbai. The series happens to be an anthology wherein six Indian filmmakers had come together with their heartfelt stories. Produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, the anthology featured 6 heart-warming stories about discovering and exploring love in all its shades and emotions. And as Modern Love Mumbai has been released today, it has got the social media buzzing.

The netizens have been in awe of the anthology and have given it a thumbs up. In fact, the audience has been showering immense love on Fatima Sana Shaikh for her story Raat Rani. A Twitter user wrote, “What a wonderful story #RaatRaani Every woman should have the courage to cross the flyover when facing tough situations... @fattysanashaikh”. Another user took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and sang praises for the music of the series. The tweet read, “The soundtrack of #ModernLoveMumbai on #amazonprime is just out of the world. Each & every song tugs at your heartstrings. I loved the music more than the films. Modern love New York Season 1 will always remain my favorite. The Hindi one captures the essence of Mumbai perfectly.” One of the users also tweeted, “the kind of symbolism shown in the first epi of #ModernLoveMumbai is so so heartwarming. The usage of bicycle to represent life & moving on, the reference to retrain flower, the brilliant usage of roof fall! and then add Fatima's acting performance to it? It can’t get better”.

The anthology has stories from filmmakers Vishal Bharadwaj, Hansal Mehta, Shonali Bose, Dhruv Sehgal, Alankrita Shrivastava, and Nupur Asthana and features Masaba Gupta, Ritwik Bhowmik, Sarika, Danesh Razvi, Tanvi Azmi, Tanuja, Pratik Gandhi, Ranveer Brar, Meiyang Chang, Yeo Yann Yann, Wamiqa Gabbi, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, and Chitrangada Singh among others.

Earlier in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Fatima had opened up on her role in the Modern Love Mumbai story Raat Raani and stated, “My character in modern love is something I have attempted for the very first time and this anthology is very close to my heart. Had a lot of fun shooting for both and can’t wait to see the response from the audience now”.

Fatima Sana Shaikh is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Thar, where she will be sharing screen space with Anil Kapoor, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, and Satish Kaushik. Ahead of its release, the star cast has been busy promoting the movie and interacting with different media portals. Speaking of which, recently, Fatima conversed with a news agency and shared how Anil Kapoor is a source of support and encouragement for her.

Talking to IndiaToday.in, Fatima expressed that Anil Kapoor has been like a support system to her in the Hindi film industry. The Ludo actress said that Kapoor would always encourage her whenever her morale is down. “It is very important to not lose your morale, but there comes a time when you lose your morale and confidence in yourself, and sometimes you have a person like Anil sir who says, 'no beta you are doing well and you should have confidence in yourself and be ready to fail,’ that for me is a big thing.” The actress explained that she now changed her approach and she’s actively reaching out to people and developing projects for herself.

Going further, Fatima praised Kapoor’s body of work and opened up on the equation they share with each other. "The body of work and the stardom he has is unimaginable. Having said that we had a very easy relationship on the sets, it was very warm. I want to work with him again and want to grow with people like him. If that happens I am very happy,” Fatima said.

Talking about Thar, the Raj Singh Chaudhary directorial is slated to release on an OTT platform on the 6th of March. Apart from Harsh, Anil, and Fatima, the film also features Satish Kaushik and Jitendra Singh in key roles.

The much-anticipated trailer for Anil Kapoor's upcoming film, Thar was released on Monday afternoon. It also sees Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Satish Kaushik in the film. It marks the directorial debut of Raj Singh Chaudhary and is produced by Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC). The film releases on Netflix on 6 May. The trailer launch of Thar was held today in Mumbai and the entire cast made a grand appearance at the event. Along with Anil, Harsh, and Fatima, other cast members including Mukti Mohan, Jitendra Joshi, and the director were also present.

In the photos, one can see Anil Kapoor looking dapper as he donned a black suit with a white shirt, and paired it with black trousers. His son Harsh Vardhan Kapoor wore a mustard color suit and matching pants accompanied by a black shirt. Fatima Sana Shaikh, on the other hand, aced her look as she wore a long maroon dress that perfectly flaunted her curves. The cast was also seen posing with the director Raj Singh Chaudhary at the trailer launch.

This is the second time Anil and Harsh will be working together after AK vs AK, which was released in 2020. However, in that film, Harsh only had a cameo, Thar marks the first time the father-son duo will be co-starring in full-length roles. Thar traces Siddharth (Harsh Vardhan Kapoor), an antique dealer’s journey through a remote village in Rajasthan, that has recently been rocked by a series of violent killings. As the local cop Surekha Singh (Anil Kapoor) investigates the murders, he comes across Siddharth and finds him suspicious.

Amazon Prime Video hit it out of the park when it was first brought to the small screen in 2019. After the season's huge success, the anthology series was renewed for a second time. Based on the weekly column published by The New York Times, Modern Love is a dive into relationships across the spectrum and has starred actors like Anne Hathaway, Kit Harrington, Dev Patel, Tina Fey, Tobias Menzies, and Andrew Scott among many others.

Now, according to the latest report in Mid-Day, the OTT giant has been working on the Indian adaptation of Modern Love over the past two years. The show is all set to be adapted between the gullies of India and directors such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Hansal Mehta, Alankrita Shrivastava, Anjali Menon, Shonali Bose, and Dhruv Sehgal have reportedly been roped.

A source confirmed the development of the portal and said, "The anthology series, over its two seasons, has explored love in all its complicated and beautiful forms. The Indian adaptation will be in a similar vein, telling everyday stories about relationships, tugging at your heartstrings with their honesty and simplicity. The stories have been developed by the six directors with their team of writers, and then vetted by Amazon’s writers’ room. Much like the original format, each of the actors will be fronting a segment in the anthology."

The source added, "Pratik and Wamiqa are known faces in OTT entertainment, thanks to their strong performances in Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Grahan. Similarly, Fatima is no stranger to anthologies, having been part of Ajeeb Daastaans.: Shoot for the Indian adaptation of Modern Love began in late 2021 and the OTT giant is hoping to release it this year. "The filmmakers began shooting their segments in November. The show will move into post-production by next month as the platform hopes to release it sometime later in the year," the source further revealed.

Months after announcing that she was excited and thrilled to be a part of the Hindi remake of the Tamil film 'Aruvi', Fatima Sana Shaikh has opted out of the project. According to a report published in ETimes, the Dangal actress has opted out of the film with director E Niwas. The reason? Well, Fatima's dates with another project clashed due to a delay in the project.

Turns out, the film was supposed to roll in August 2021 and Fatima had allotted dates for the same that month. However, the film did not go on floors and was rescheduled for November. The actress reportedly had other projects lined up and thus could not work out the dates.

As per the report, Fatima told the film’s producers, Applause Entertainment and Faith Films, that she would collaborate with them on another project at a later date.

Earlier, Fatima had announced that she will be headlining Aruvi and had said, "I am so thrilled to do the remake of ‘Aruvi’ and really looking forward to diving deep into the skin of the character. I am really glad that Applause Entertainment and Faith Films have come together with E Niwas to make this great content and I am really excited to embark on this journey."

Meanwhile, Pinkvilla had exclusively revealed in September that the actress has been approached to play a role in Vicky Kaushal Starrer Sam Bahadur. "Fatima has been approached to play a pivotal role in Sam Bahadur, and she has really liked the part. The makers and the actress are presently in advanced talks, and the conversation should be formalized soon. Meanwhile, the pre-production work on the film is on, and is expected to roll early next year,” a source close to the development informed.

In 2017, it was first reported that filmmakers Meghna Gulzar and Ronnie Screwvala will collaborate to make a film on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and almost two years later it was revealed that  Vicky Kaushal will play the titular role in the film. In April this year, the movie also got its title. “The man. The legend. The brave heart. On the birth anniversary of Field Marshal #SamManekshaw, his story has found its name. #SamBahadur,” Vicky wrote on Instagram.

Pinkvilla now has a new update on this much-awaited film. We have learned that  Fatima Sana Shaikh will feature in this Meghna Gulzar directorial. “Fatima has been approached to play a pivotal role in Sam Bahadur, and she has really liked the part. The makers and the actress are presently in advanced talks, and the conversation should be formalized soon. Meanwhile, the pre-production work on the film is on, and is expected to roll early next year,” informs a source close to the development.

Vicky’s first look as Sam Manekshaw was unveiled in 2019. Along with the picture, Vicky had written on Twitter, “The swashbuckling general & the first Field Marshal of India- SAM MANEKSHAW. I feel honored & proud of getting a chance to unfold his journey on-screen. Remembering him on his death anniversary & embracing the new beginnings with @meghnagulzar and @RonnieScrewvala.”

Meanwhile, Vicky’s The Immortal Ashwatthama with producer Screwvala has been put on hold for now. Vicky also has Shashank Khaitan’s Mr. Lele with Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar in the pipeline.

Fatima Sana Shaikh might have had a debut opposite Aamir Khan in Nitesh Tiwari's Dangal, but her career could have catapulted to a place, which unfortunately didn't happen. In fact, her second film with the superstar tanked badly at the box office. Not just that, the film Thugs Of Hindostan was heavily criticized and got her a lot of negative reviews.

In fact, she admits that the failure caused things and movie deals to crumble in front of her, as producers didn't want to bet their money on her.  "Mujhe laga tha mera career khatam. I was dropped out of films. I was getting work but those were not the kind that I wanted to do. Either you have to do what you get or just hold back, so I held back. I decided that because it's been tough to be part of this industry and I wanted to be in a position to choose. So I made the choice and I gave myself two years to make the kind of choices that I want to make. If those choices aren't helping my career, then I'll do whatever comes my way. Until then, I'll only do what makes me happy. Bohut Mushkil Se launches our entry Mili hai, I'll not let it go."

She further adds, "It was heartbreaking and disappointing, I felt my career is over. But at the same time, I didn't want to give up. It's great that I got to experience the best and worst in a matter of two years. I understand a producer's mind. I get it that they want to bank on an actor who's worth their money and is commercially viable, rather than risking their money on someone who has just given a flop. I ufelt bad, I kept thinking that agar film flop ho gayi toh kaam nahi milega kya? But I also understand their point. Tomorrow, if I'm doing better, they will come to me and I'll work with them."
