Sarees always have our undivided attention whenever there's any festival, occasion or simply if we want to look our traditional best. Designers are constantly reinventing sarees giving them a worldly touch. We all witnessed how many B-town celebs including star kids have chosen sarees as they put on a glam avatar this Diwali because why not? They never go wrong. So in case, you are gearing up to put on a desi show with a playful twist give this six-yard ago.
First up, we have the model and actress Diana Penty. For last year's Diwali, Diana made a wise choice as she wore the Fuschia pink ruffled saree ideal for the festival of lights. Standing against the backdrop of leaves and lights, the color was quite eye-catching. She paired it with a half-sleeved jewel-embellished blouse and an embroidered belt to keep the dupatta in place. Accessorizing with emerald teardrop earrings from Joolry, she kept her makeup minimal with kohl-rimmed eyes, blushed cheeks, and a deep pink pout. Her white bindi and open hair made this look quite effortless.
For an ad shoot, Ananya Panday wore the same ruffled drape. This chiffon and organza saree also featured ruffles on the pallu as well as on the saree. The Khaali Peeli actress styled it with an embroidered sleeveless blouse featuring Gota Patti work and sequins. Gold drop earrings, bracelets, and a ring acted as her accessories. A bold red lip with a high ponytail rounded off her desi look.
New day, and new reasons to swoon over designs and doyens behind the sartorial art. It was yesterday when the second ‘Phygital’ edition of FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week kicked off with sheer flamboyance and grace in equal measure that spoke of celestial craze, vibrant bridal wear, to Ottoman Empire-inspired fits. Today's show was opened by Aisha Rao.
For as long as one can remember, a major chunk of our childhood days was bettered by the commendable fables narrated by our parents. It not only shaped our dreams but served a massive deal of knowledge that helped us hit the sack with smiles and giggles. Fantasies grew then and for a few, it continues to seem seminal even today. And, the stellar couturier, Aisha Rao made us plunge again into the good old times as her collection on stage had exceptional stories to convey as these were translated to us via ensembles with the premise of ‘Paper Dolls’ as the theme. Curtains were drawn as the music began to play not only to calm our senses but to also prep our eyes for a soothing show that followed imminently.
Aisha’s work has always been about celebrating the core of embroidery in the most elaborate way possible wherein she gives preference to the magic of floral. And, this was very much visible to us in the attire donned by models and the stunning starlet. The most glamorous girl on the Bollywood block, Diana Penty stood as the prettiest doll as she was the showstopper decked up in a silk organza lehenga set that featured a full-sleeved sweetheart neckline blouse, glossy dupatta, and a matching skirt all of which was inundated with fantastic embroidery work. Her makeup too competed with her glossy silhouette as it had an on-point highlighter, kohl-rimmed look accentuated with a black smokey eye, peach pout, and center-parted tresses left to stand free, sleek, and neat. Her glam was entirely different from that of models as they had their cheeks flushed heavily in pink blush, skin ultra-shiny that blended with their lipstick hue, and hair brushed to one side with a wet look that sat flat. Boys had it the messy way and a few with their turbans on.
As we peered into our screens in admiration of treats that were to galore, it only grew a sense of fondness for ethnic and western wear that was peppered with the essence of modernity and the never-fading liking for floral designs which were highlighted with applique work, zardozi, sequins, beads, and crystals all of which gleamed so beautifully. Models had their A+ outfits made with silk fabric with boys dressed suavely in blazer sets, kurtas, and sherwani. While women were clad in dresses that came with hand accessories made with the same fabric, lehengas, and ruffle sarees.
After a slump of more than a year due to the Covid-19m pandemic, the film industry is picking up pace at a break-neck speed. On Wednesday, a brand new film was announced by director Sabbir Khan and the film's first look was also shared. Titled Adbhut, Sabbir Khan's thriller will see Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Diana Penty, Shreya Dhanwanthary, and Rohan Mehra in the lead role. The thriller, which the makers have called the 'most shocking film of the year' in the teaser, gives a glimpse of all four actors. Sharing the Adbhut teaser and announcing the film, Nawazuddin tweeted,
Radhika Madan's cutout dress, Diana Penty flaunting her abs or Sara Ali Khan's white desi look? Mumbai seems to be finally back on its track in terms of Bollywood. Diana Penty was a floral princess as her nude tube blouse with floral applique won the spotlight. The pink stone-encrusted two-tier choker necklace filled the voidness around her neck and the diva gave it a grand twist with her multicolor bandeau blouse and the 3-D flowers brought all the spring vibes to her enchanting look. Bright pink eyeshadow, pink matte lips, and loads of blush elevated her glam style. The diva left her open in a sleek center-parted hairstyle.
The second wave of Coronavirus has created havoc in the country. The spike in cases has overburdened the health care sector. Several celebrities from the Bollywood industry have offered a helping hand amid the crisis by arranging for oxygen cylinders, concentrators, and hospital beds. Stars have also amplified requests for resources on their social media handles and used their respective platforms to start fundraisers to help patients battling the deadly virus. Now, Diana Penty has also extended her support for the cause.
The actress and model collaborated with Ketto India to offer help to those affected by the virus. She took to her Instagram handle to explain details about the initiative called 'Every Life Matters. The cause works towards helping patients receive financial aid amid the prolonged pandemic situation. She said, "Over the last few weeks, there have been countless individuals and organizations that have rallied to help their fellow citizens as we face the devastating effects of the 2nd wave of this pandemic.” She also said that seeing Covid warriors in action and doing inspiring work is ‘heartwarming’.
The actress urged all her fans to support the initiative and offer help in whichever way possible. She explained that the initiative focuses on providing medical support for patients in need. "Through this initiative, we plan to raise funds to help individuals in dire need of financial support for medical treatment, and also provide support to amplify the work of the countless Covid heroes out there who are doing their level best to help,” she added.

Sidharth Malhotra and Diana Penty have been grabbing headlines ever since they collaborated for the romantic song title Challon Ka Nishaan. Both the stars have been promoting their music video with great zeal on social media. Now, after the months of teasing, the song is finally out and it has left everyone in awe of Sidharth and Diana’s sizzling chemistry in the love ballad that struck the right chord. Crooned by Stebin Ben, the song has been composed by Sunny Inder and lyrics have been penned by Kumaar.
While talking about working on the song, Sidharth had told Pinkvilla, "It felt great to shoot outdoors after a while in Goa, use the scenic location and the vibe of the place. The direction by Bosco as always was seamless and creating this beautiful story with Diana was amazing. I am excited for everyone to see this song!”
"Deepika Padukone was one of my firsts. As my first co-actor in my first ever film, she made quite an impact, allaying my fears and giving me a memorable initiation into a world I had no clue about. It's important to remember that I was young, a professional model, who was suddenly plunged into a new universe that was filled with so many unknowns. Deepika had many films under her belt by then, a rising star, and yet she was so warm, with a smile that always made you feel welcome and part of the crew," Diana recalled.
"I remember on one of the very first days of shoot, which was in London, I was sitting alone in my hotel room when I received a message from Deepika asking me to join her for dinner. When I met her later that evening, I realized that Saif (Ali Khan), Homi (Adajania), and a few others were there, she went out of her way to make me feel included. We soon became 2 DPs in the same pod! I learned from her to always be the consummate professional, Deepika's discipline was exemplary. She was never late for the shoot and no matter when we packed up, she would always find a way to make it to the gym among many other things. I also remember watching in jaw-dropping awe, how she transformed herself into Veronica, a character that was not anything like her personally. I truly was blown away," she added.
It’s been eight years since the release of Homi Adajania's directorial Cocktail. The movie featured Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty and was quite popular among the audience. After all, who didn’t love Deepika’s bold and confident avatar Diana’s oh so simple, girl next door look. From the storyline to performance, cast, and even music, everything about Cocktail managed to win hearts. And as the movie turns eight today, Deepika and Diana celebrated the day with special posts.
"I think this pandemic has been nature's way of telling us to just stop. We were moving at a pace too fast for our own good. This time, as tough as it has been, has given me the chance to disconnect and just be," Diana told IANS.
"Most importantly it's taught me to value life, the people I love, and the world around me. I'm grateful to have the things that I have, and I've learned not to take anything for granted," she added amid lockdown, Diana has come out with an initiative called The Khaki Project to extend help and support to Mumbai Police, who have been in the forefront in the city's fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
There are certain Bollywood films that are still fresh in our minds. The 2012 commercial hit Cocktail is one of them. Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty as the main leads and Boman Irani, Dimple Kapadia, and Randeep Hooda in supporting roles, is still known for its famous and peppy songs composed by Pritam and Salim- Sulaiman. The movie was positively received by the critics and audiences alike and the performances of Saif, Deepika, and Diana were appreciated by everyone. This romantic comedy written by Imtiaz Ali had entered the 100-crore club becoming a box-office hit.
The movie talks about romance, friendship, and relationships. Cocktail revolves around 3 individuals Meera played by Diana Penty, Veronica played by Deepika Padukone and Gautam played by Saif Ali Khan. Meera is a simpleton who comes to London to be with her husband Kunal (Randeep Hooda). She is left stranded in London by Kunal after he reveals that he only married her for money and doesn’t need her anymore. This leads her to meet Veronica who decides to help her and takes Meera to live with her. One day they go to a club and meet Gautam, who gets intimate and makes out with Veronica. Gautam then later gets into a no strings attached relationship with Veronica and moves in with both the girls. They become good friends but later Gautam’s mother Kavita (Dimple Kapadia) and uncle Randhir (Boman Irani) pay a surprise visit to his place. When Kavita asks and pressurizes Gautam for marriage he lies that Meera is the girl he likes because Kavita likes Meera more than Veronica because she is simpler. This leads them to play a drama in front of his mother.
Amid all this, Veronica starts to develop feelings for Gautam, and at the same time, Gautam and Meera fall in love with each other. This leads to a rift between the three and Gautam explains to Veronica that he loves Meera and Meera loves him back. A heartbroken Veronica at first reacts calmly but breaks down and calls Meera ungrateful and begs Gautam to accept her. The three friends part ways and Meera goes back to her husband. Veronica then gets into a car accident and injures herself. Gautam takes her to the hospital where Meera lets him know that she is over Gautam by bringing Kunal to the hospital. Gautam then takes care of Veronica and she later realizes that Gautam is in love with Meera and sacrifices her love for him and they both go to track Meera down. They come to know from Kunal that Meera has left him and went back to India as she loved Gautam. Gautam and Veronica go to India and the former proposes to Meera and they 3 reunite leading to a happy ending.
But is this satisfactory? Was the ending fair to Veronica? What if Meera wouldn't have accepted Gautam as it wouldn't be fair for her as a friend to do this with Veronica who had helped her when she was in need? What if Gautam would have gone back to Veronica who loves him so much that she was ready to change her personality for Gautam’s mother? Or would it be better if both the girls rejected Gautam and moved on with their life? While the movie’s storyline definitely won millions of hearts, Cocktail could have an alternate ending
"I used to love doing the runway shows when I was a model and I miss that sometimes now. But it's great to go back to it every now and then as 'showstopper'." The "Cocktail" actress, however, adds that acting is more challenging a job and it keeps her going. "For me, acting is way more challenging because it pushes you to get out of your comfort zone and try new things with each film. I love challenging myself; it's what keeps me going. So as much as I love my time as a model, I don't think I'd be able to go back to it full time," said Penty.
Talking about the best memories of being a model, she said: "Working and modeling in New York was definitely a life-changing experience for me. Walking the shows at New York Fashion Week was such a great high. I will never forget those days." The leggy beauty is currently shooting for "Shiddat" which will release later this year. "It's an intense love story, which is something I've never attempted before. So I'm really looking forward to it. It's also really special as I'll be working with the Maddock team again for the first time after ‘Cocktail'."

Sarees are a special piece of clothing, especially for us Indians. From weddings and cocktail parties to day-to-day use, sarees win all eyeballs. Nothing makes one look as elegant and graceful as one in a saree. It can be ethnic, western, contemporary, or anything you want it to be. As we see the evolution of normal sarees to pre-draped and pant-saree styles, we are completely consumed by the beauty of Diana Penty in stunning sarees. From red carpets to festivals, the Cocktail actress gives us the perfect inspiration to craft up a gorgeous look in a saree. Here are 5 times she floored us in one.
Looking tall, beautiful, and flawless in a fuchsia ruffled sari from Ridhi Mehra, Diana Penty made a statement in her pre-draped saree. Her embellished blouse bore a plunging neckline and complimented her embroidered belt. With a pop of pink, Diana’s saree is definitely a show stealer perfect for sangeet, cocktail parties, and festivals. Bringing contrast to her all-pink look she opted for emerald chandelier teardrop earrings as her only piece of accessory. She decked up with a small silver bindi, center-parted sleek hairdo, and minimal makeup to look effortlessly chic in her saree.
Bringing in the perfect ‘cocktail’ vibes, the actress cum model looked like a true diva in a red saree by Arpita Mehta. Yet again establishing her love for ruffles she teamed her designer saree with an embroidered spaghetti blouse giving us a sensual-romantic look. Shimmery eyeshadow, red lips, and well-contoured face elevated her glam quotient and we absolutely loved her in red.
The diva spotted a gorgeous saree-not-saree look at the Cannes Film Festival a couple of years ago and looked completely stunning. When we are sure that nothing supersedes the splendor of the six yards of elegance, Diana’s pick of white saree gown by Amit Aggarwal was a winner for the occasion. Her blouse featured a plunging neckline and pallu twice the usual length created the much-needed drama. Her saree gown also came with a thigh-high slit adding a risque element to her look. A Pearl necklace, matching earrings, and ivory heels rounded off her dreamy look.
For a red-carpet event, the actress looked drop-dead gorgeous in a bottle green number by Gaurav Gupta and got our eyes glued to her beauty. With cape detailing and intricate embroidery detailing on one sleeve and a metallic belt cinched at the waist, her saree made a loud impact with its minimalist elements. She complimented her look with minimal makeup, smokey eyes, and nude lips. With her hair tied behind in a ponytail, the actress looked perfect for the occasion and we totally adored her stunning green saree.
Last evening, the actress picked out a lovely Anarkali style dress by designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock. The outfit featured a natural-toned bodice with detailed floral embroidery in different shades of pink on it. It fit her well on top and flowed easily from waist down featuring small pleats.
Plenty let her outfit do all the talking and went without accessories to complete her look. Simple dull gold just completed her outfit.
To add some glamour to this simple yet elegant look, Penty styled her in a poker-straight manner and parted it in the center. Filled-in brows, rosy cheeks, neutral glossy lips, and kohl-lined eyes completed the actress' look for the evening.
