Dheeraj Dhoopar is an Indian actor and model.

Actor Dheeraj dhoop, who's currently seen in ' Kundali Bhagya', has been part of the television industry for some time now.
The actor, who is now looking forward to working on OTT projects, opens up on how television and OTT are altogether different in terms of content, storyline, and audience.
"In OTT, as an artist, I feel one has great freedom when it comes to acting, story, or direction. TV is a different ball game altogether. I feel television is the toughest sector and a lot of hard work is involved in making it successful. It is continuous work for over many years that makes an actor a household name," he adds.
The actor also talks about his interest in doing web shows."Currently, I am in talks for a few OTT projects but nothing is final at the moment. I have been doing 'Kundali Bhagya' for over four years and currently, it is the most important project for me. While doing television shows, I am also looking at breaking some barriers by doing an OTT project too. I find it hard to understand why can't an actor do a TV and OTT project together? I am sure the audience will love to see me on both the platforms," he adds
For actor Dheeraj Dhoopar, 2020 brought in the biggest shocker, when work was stalled during the pandemic-led nationwide lockdown. “None of us thought that would ever happen in the television industry,” said the actor.
Once shoots resumed, Dhoopar was not just back playing the much loved Karan Luthra in Kundali Bhagya but also showcased his versatility by playing a negative role in Naagin 5. He also backed up his work profile with a couple of music videos and TVCs.
In an exclusive conversation, Dheeraj Dhoopar looks back at 2020, his different projects, and his expectations for the coming year.
The world was facing a major crisis and things were not looking good. However, I am a person who likes to see things from a positive side. I got to spend so much time with my family for the first time. But I must add that while initially, it all seemed very exciting, I was soon craving to go back to work. I am really happy with how my career progressed and even personally, I was in a happy space. So 2020 has been fairly good for me honestly.
For the first time during the lockdown, TV shoots were put to a halt. Tell us about that experience.
Till the time the lockdown didn’t happen, I believed that shoots would never get stalled. Be it storms, bands, or heavy rains, the industry has always worked. This was the first time that we experienced something like this, and it was really weird. I was not happy as I love working and being on the set. Also, I think it was not just for the entertainment industry as every sector suffered a lot. I am glad that things are getting back to normal, and we will soon also get the vaccine.
Trust me, we have such a great team and everyone is always taking care of each other. The production and channel also assured that everything was well sanitized and all precautions were followed. I remember there was a time when I was on four different sets working with separate units– Kundali Bhagya, Naagin 5, Humko Tum Mil Gaye (music video), and a TVC. The exposure was too high but fortunately, nothing happened. It was all because we were careful. I think people somewhere understood that it is a dangerous virus and one has to be safe.
Kundali Bhagya was back on top of the rating chart after the show resumed post lockdown. What do you think has worked in its favor for so long?
From the time Kundali Bhagya launched, it has been doing well. I think given the show is so real it works well with the viewers. Also, the interpersonal relationship between every character is very relatable. Karan Luthra is very similar to me, and I feel I hardly act on the show. I think this is what has worked for us all these years.

He’s been in Goa for over a month now to shoot his daily TV show, Kundali Bhagya. But since the lockdown there, Dheeraj Dhoopar’s in limbo in a hotel with his wife-actor, Vinny Arora, and his dog, Oreo. The production unit was planning to shift to Hyderabad but after a lockdown there as well, the team is looking for a different location.
The actor says, “Shifting from one place to another is tough for the whole unit as there is a lot of stuff. They are looking for a place where they can be for the next few months. Currently, we have a good episode bank, so that is taken care of. Once things are locked, we will shift. I have been in my hotel and not stepped out as it is not safe. I have been in constant touch with the production team.”
Being in Goa during a lockdown with cases rising, staying positive and mentally strong is a task. Dhoopar reveals he was scared about the rising number of cases in Mumbai and later in Goa, too. Even some of his peers and friends contracting Covid-19 have affected him. He explains, “I heard about (actor) Anirudh Dave’s condition and it was scary. I was not okay about going on set to shoot as I was concerned. I told them that I was scared and want to go back to Mumbai. But my production team had a word and ensured me that we would maintain all protocols and strictly follow guidelines. In Goa, we have a lesser number of people on set than in Mumbai and everyone is following all SOPs. People know that if they don’t wear a mask onset, they are barred from shooting.” Later, he decided to stay back as his family was with him and he didn’t want to take a risk by traveling either.
In these troubling times when one is not just disturbed after reading the news every day regarding people struggling for oxygen, and beds, the rise in Covid cases, and now also the cyclone and Uttarakhand landslide, Dhoopar admits that even personally, shooting in difficult times in Goa and being in limbo about work as shoots have stalled there is also affecting him. The actor says keeping the morale up in trying times is tough. “I am in a safe place in Goa in a beautiful location with my family, who are all healthy – that makes me happy. I feel happiness is a luxury in these testing times. News not just about Covid but also natural calamities worries and disturb you. It is a difficult time for all and I wish this ends soon. Staying in touch with family and ensuring their safety is a stress buster. You know, I left my Mumbai home on April 8 and now it has been a month, since then and I am missing my home. Last year, we didn’t shoot at all for months. We saw the worst. This year, at least, we are working. This is not the best scenario to work. The industry is trying and we are continuing to work.”
Shraddha Arya and Dheeraj Dhoopar play the leads in Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya. Their on-screen chemistry is the show’s highlight and has kept viewers hooked to the show. The duo does not spare a single moment to showcase their dramatic side, be it on-screen or off it. Shraddha and Dheeraj often make reels on Instagram to entertain fans.
Sharing her thoughts on the reel and her equation with Dheeraj, Shraddha says, “Dheeraj and I share a great bond, one which is different from what the viewers see on screen. Whenever we get some spare time, we are either creating reels or cracking jokes, which keeps the environment lively. The reel that we created on the song Peaches was something we were planning for quite a while now and since our viewers have always seen us being dramatic on-screen, we wanted to maintain that element in our reel.”
Actor Dheeraj Dhoopar shares his new look for the Lohri party sequence in the show 'Kundali Bhagya'. Dheeraj got a chance to experiment with his look and he took up a turban-clad, Sardar avatar for the special episode.
During the two-year leap in the show, viewers saw Karan (Dheeraj Dhoopar) and Preeta (Shraddha Arya) getting separated. Later, Prithvi (Sanjay Gagnani) has taken control of the Luthra Mansion and Preeta has returned to save the family. Now, in the latest track of 'Kundali Bhagya,' there will be a party and Lohri celebrations.
Talking about his look Dheeraj said: "Different roles demand different kinds of preparations, and I attempt to do it quite earnestly. For an actor, it's more of a physical preparation when it comes to a sequence like Lohri. I mean, culturally you know I belong to Delhi and a Punjabi family. Lohri is a very prominent festival in northern India. I have many good childhood memories associated with the festival. I always cherish meeting all the family members and dressing up in colorful traditional attire; dancing and singing around the bonfire."
He further added: "I have experimented with multiple looks with a countless number of costumes and dressing up as a Sardar feels special. There's always a plan of action as an actor and it's my job to give my 101 percent to every character, be it any look. I am always excited about new challenges and this fresh avatar was a welcome change. The fun part of acting is you get to play a completely different person each time."
