Salman gave me an opportunity in 'Race 3' and that was the beginning of a lot of things for me and my career. A lot of people saw me after a long time. The younger generation hadn't seen me and when Salman Bhai ki film Lagi ho to everybody goes to see it. Because of 'Race 3', I landed a role in 'Housefull 3' and that’s how the younger generation started noticing me.”
Sunny Deol's son Karan Deol made his debut with Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas is 2019 however the film tanked and did not live up to the mark at the box office. In a recent chat with RJ host, Karan shared how his uncle Bobby Deol motivated him not to give up after the movie did not do well.

The actor said that his family supported him through the tough phase and he is fortunate to have such a family. Karan went on to reveal how his uncle Bobby came to him and said, ‘For three years, I didn’t get any work. I had the biggest of starts to my career. I gave the biggest of hits, but when things weren’t working, things weren’t. Just don’t give up. Look at me now, three years later, I’m going solid, I feel like I’ve been relaunched in the industry’.
Karan also recalled how his father motivated him with a story about how he had gone through the same feelings when he was making his debut film, Ghayal. “I kept blaming myself. He told me that in Ghayal, there were some things that weren’t going his way… but he didn’t admit defeat, and tackled things in a different way, and it turned out to be his most iconic dialogues,” shared Karan.
In 1977, Bobby Deol made his acting debut as a child artist in father, Dharmendra’s entertainer, Dharamveer. 18 years later was his mega launch with Barsaat. It has been 45 years since he first faced the camera. Ask him about the occasion and he shares, “That was something out of the blue. My dad just wanted some child to play with his young self – someone tough with big legs. He asked me about it and I just did it. I was so excited because it was my first experience of facing the camera.”
Looking back at his journey the actor exclaims that it has been amazing. “I have done all sorts of films – commercial cinema, thrillers, action, and a few comedies. I have evolved with time and given myself the chance to keep learning. The hard work and focus have brought me here today. I feel, that if the work is appreciated, an actor’s innings are longer than a star’s innings. I just want to do roles which are out of my comfort zone.”
Opening up about the characters he wishes to explore in the coming few years and Bobby already has a clear vision. “I like characters which have grey or dark shades to them. My favorite character is the one from Dillagi, which is on the aggressive side. It was interesting, but then I have done roles in the other spectrum too. I played Shaheed Bhagat Singh, whom the entire India worships. I kept trying to do stuff and even faltered while doing commercial cinema. But now, I want people to not look at me as Bobby Deol, but an actor who happens to be Bobby Deol.”

Bollywood actor Bobby Deol will soon be seen portraying a pivotal character in the upcoming film ' Love Hostel'. As the trailer of the film releases on Monday, unveiling more details, Bobby shares that even a dark character becomes dark for a reason.
The film is set in the northern part of India where a young couple elopes and gets married. How did their decision put them in a life-threatening situation, the story unveils.
Sharing the insight of his character, Bobby told IANS, "It is a very interesting character that has quite a twisted journey. Of course, I cannot reveal that but I must say that even a dark character has a darker backstory. There is a reason why the character's actions are brutal. He was a regular man with whom something happened one day that changed him completely. So now whatever he does, he does it in his righteous way. Once the film is out, people will get to know really."
This is not the first time that Bobby is playing a grey character as one of his recent successes is the Prakash Jha directorial web series 'Ashram'.
Decoding his process to tap into the dark side of his mind, the actor said, "Well, some extreme emotions we all have in our mind but we only become a better version of ourselves by controlling the negative emotions and focusing on the positive ones because honestly speaking, we are emotionally flawed people.
"What happens for an actor is, when we play any negative character or something that is quite opposite of who we are, we sit down and convince ourselves that at that point of time, for the character, a specific behavior is right. Then we do not look at the situation from our lens but from the lens of the character. I think convincing myself and building the mind is the most fascinating process for me."
On Thursday, January 27, Sunny Deol’s younger brother Bobby Deol turned a year older. On the special occasion of his 53rd birthday, Sunny traveled down memory lane to share an unseen photo of the sibling duo from their childhood days. Needless to say, the Deol brothers look absolutely adorable in the throwback photo. Moreover, it also showcases how Sunny has been a protective brother to Bobby since childhood.
In the monochromatic picture, the elder brother can be seen holding tiny Bobby in his arms. While Sunny smiles, on the other hand, Bobby looks chubby as the camera captures them together. While extending the birthday wish, Sunny wrote, “My little brother. Happy Birthday. Love love and love.” As soon as the photo caught their attention Bobby quickly responded, “Love you Bhaiya.”
In terms of work, Sunny is currently gearing up to feature in the sequel of the movie Gadar. In an interview with Pinkvilla to celebrate 20 years of Gadar, director Anil Sharma previously said, “The entire world wants to see Tara Singh back and I would love to make 10 films on that character. But it’s difficult to make Gadar 2. One needs a bomb of emotion, drama, and grandeur. Whenever Gadar 2 is announced, you can assume that I have got that bomb.”
The first movie was based during the time frame of the Partition of India. The film tells the story of a truck driver, Tara Singh, a Sikh, who falls in love with a Muslim girl, Sakin '' Sakku'' belonging to an aristocratic family. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was a massive hit at the box office which has already set the expectation bar a bit higher for the upcoming movie.
In part one of this interview, Bobby Deol got candid about his version 2.0 and revealed that he worked hard to achieve success and is now all the more nervous. He also opened up about how working with Salman Khan in Race 3 changed the tide for him and resulted in multiple offers from the film industry. And now, in the second part, the actor gives an insight into his lineup of projects and suggests that he is booked for at least a year from now.
The actor will next be seen in Penthouse, which marks a reunion with director duo, Abbas Mustan after 8 long years. The two have previously worked on thrillers like Humraaz, Ajnabee, Soldier, and Players. “They are the nicest people I have worked with. I have done maximum films with them and their first web film is also with me. They are amazing at making thrillers and have a very modern approach towards visualizing the scenes,” the actor shares, adding further that there was a phase in his career when he was offered nothing but thrillers. “I got stuck to the image of acting in thrillers, and when some of them didn’t work, things fell through. But am glad, that different content is coming my way now. My three shows on the web world showcase a different version of me – Class of 83, Ashram, and Penthouse.”
He is reuniting with his father, Dharmendra, and brother, Sunny on the Anil Sharma directed Apne sequel. While the film was initially slated to go on floors in April, it has now been pushed to the second half of the year. “We start around July as the work on the script is still going on. It should come out next year and it’s going to be exciting to be working with my dad, brother, and also for the first time with Karan (Deol),” he exults, refusing to divulge any other details.
There’s also the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed Animal under his kitty which pairs him alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Parineeti Chopra. “Ranbir is one of the finest actors in our industry and I am really looking forward to working with him. The film goes on the floor in the second half of the year. Sandeep’s characters are different and he thinks out of the box to bring out such stuff from a character that not many can think of. That’s all I can talk about at the moment,” he smiles. There’s also the Shah Rukh Khan production, Love Hostel with Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra, wherein he plays the negative lead.
