Asheer Grover is an Indian businessman who is the co-founder and managing director of BharatPe. Nowadays he is in the news for joining Sony TV’s show Shark Tank India as a Shark (Judge). Asher was born on 14 June 1982 in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. He belonged to a family with a rich and educational background, due to which he never faced any social and economic problems. He got his early education from a private school in Delhi.

Ashneer, who was sharp in their studies from the beginning, gave the entrance exam of IIT after his 12th in which he secured a good rank in All India, due to which he got an opportunity to get admission to IIT Delhi. Grover did his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi.

During his studies, he went to INSA Lyon College in France under the exchange program from where he did his remaining 2 years of studies. Ashneer had attended a B.Tech course at IIT Delhi, which has a total duration of 4 years, but when he was in his second year, he took part in the exchange program organized by the college.

Candidates selected in this program had the opportunity to complete the remaining 2 years of their studies at the Institute National of Des Sciences, Lyon, France. Ashneer was also one of the 6 candidates selected for the program. After completing his studies in France, he came back to India and gave the entrance exam of CAT in which he got a good rank all over India. Grover got admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad due to his good rank in the Common Admission Test i.e. CAT. He did his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.

After getting his MBA degree from IIM, he immediately got a job in Kotak Investment Bank where he worked as a Vice President for a full 7 years. He then joined the American multinational company American Express (Amex) in March 2013 as the Director of Corporate Development, where he worked for nearly two years.

Although this job is a dream job of many MBA graduates Ashneer had to do something else in his life so he left this company later. Ashneer Grover wanted to join a startup and work for them. He wanted to see how the whole startup process worked, so he decided to leave Amex and join Grofers.

However, his decision did not get the support of his parents, as every parent wants a secure future for their child. The prospects were few in Grofers but there was a lot to learn. But Ashneer’s wife Madhuri supported him so he joined Grofers in 2015 as a core team member. Joining Grofers proved to be very helpful for Ashneer and he got a lot of advantages.

He understood the whole process one by one and started adding investors to the company which is an important link to building a startup. In this company, Grover worked as a member for about two and a half years and despite everything being fine, decided to leave the company.

In reality, you should not compromise until you achieve the goal you have set, no matter how big it may be. When he told his family about leaving the company, his parents were once again angry and objected to their decision. But he did what he wanted to do. Leaving Grofers, he joined PC Jewelers and joined as the head of the new business.

At PC Jewelers Ltd he helped develop some new business and payment strategies. While working with the company’s new payment options, the idea of ​​digital payments inspired him. He then decided to leave his current company.

Ashneer’s wife Madhuri once again supported him and joined Ashneer’s new start-up company BharatPe Digital Payment. Initially, when Ashneer Grover started working on the BharatPe project, he was unable to pay the salaries of employees. The responsibilities grew only after the seed funding round and he needed someone special in the company by his side.

Ashneer Grover’s wife Madhuri then decided to join the company as well as handle some important things like finance control and banking pickles. It was a very difficult task in the beginning but BharatPe achieved great success in less than 1 year.

In October 2018, Ashneer Grover officially launched BharatPe with less than 20 employees. After which the company achieved new heights within 1 year in which more than 500 employees were working for them. He has successfully set up offices across India in 150 different cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Delhi.

At present, BharatPe’s network has grown to over 10 million with monthly UPI transactions of over US$ 170 million. The company recently raised US$370 million through funding from New York-based Tiger Global, taking Bharatpe’s total valuation from around US$3.80 billion to around US$4 billion.

In the year 2022, Ashneer Grover is appearing on TV for the first time in a show. He is participating as a shark in Sony TV’s show Shark Tank India where besides him, some popular businessmen like Anupam Mittal, Vineeta Singh, Aman Gupta, Peyush Bansal, and Namita Thapar, Ghazal Alagh are involved as a Shark on the show.
