1. Harman Baweja is a Professional Poker Player

2. Kim Basinger Bought a Town

When the actress was at the top of her fame in 1989 she decided to spend $20 million for most of the land in Braselton in Georgia. The town had around 7 500 inhabitants on 2 000 acres and her idea was to attract more tourists, create a film studio and a Film festival.   

Intending to turn it into a tourist destination. Five years later, facing personal bankruptcy, she and her partners sold the land for $1 million.

3. Benedict Cumberbatch Was Abducted

The actor who gained international fame for the portrayal of Doctor Strange in the Avengers franchise has unfortunately had a frightening near-death experience while he was filming the TV Show To the End of the Earth in South Africa. On his way to the set, the actor was abducted by 6 men with guns that shoved him in a trunk and drove away. Fortunately, the kidnappers did let him go after they’ve robbed him of all his possessions. The incident had a profound impact on the actor and he said he is a better person because of it.  

The actor was accompanied by his co-stars Theo Landey and Denise Black, and when they were returning from a scuba session, they blew a tire along a stretch notorious for armed kidnappings.

The trio was tied up with their own shoelaces and made to crouch execution-style. Cumberbatch, according to a 2016 Vanity Fair profile, pleaded for his life. His co-star said that when he was stuffed into the trunk, he 'kicked and screamed bloody murder'. The kidnappers left them on the side of the road, and the trio was soon found by some local women.

“I was definitely more impatient to live a life less ordinary,” he said about his reaction to the ordeal. “I wanted to swim in the sea that I saw the next morning. If you feel you’re going to die, you don’t think you’re going to have all those sensations again—a cold beer, a cigarette, the feel of the sun on your skin. All those hit you as firsts again. It is, in a way, a new beginning. But we were on our way back from the first weekend of a scuba-diving training course, so it wasn’t as if I was insular before that. I think it just made me run at it a bit more recklessly," he said.

4. Nicolas Cage Had a Pet Octopus

Nicolas Cage has been known to make some pretty outrageous purchases throughout his career. Many of those purchases lead to his ultimate bankruptcy and his rise back to stardom after taking every movie role available to bounce back. The list of purchases included everything from a collection of multimillion-dollar mansions, a castle, several yachts, more than 50 cars, a jet, and an island.

Nicolas Cage is famous for acting in films like the National Treasure, Mandy, and Leaving Las Vegas. The actor loves exotic animals and has reportedly paid $150 000 for a pet octopus.  While we are unclear of how the octopus turned acting coach helped his career, it is probably more likely the excuse was used for tax write-off purposes to expense the high-end purchase. There has been no report of the talented cephalopod since Cage filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and lost a majority of his assets.

But it was his other purchase of two Albino King Cobras that made headlines around the world. The King Cobras are extremely venomous species and they could kill 20 people or 1 elephant with only one bite. The actor also bought an antidote, but in the end, he decided to donate his pets to a local Zoo.
